DIY Flying Keys -So Easy and So Elegant!

"They're not birds!  They're keys! Winged keys-look carefully.  So, that must mean...yes-look!  Broomsticks!  We've got to catch the key to the door!"

-Harry Potter from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Aren't these the prettiest flying keys you've ever seen?

They're so easy to make and beautiful, too.
With a few supplies, dear crafters, you can have these flying keys making mischief in your own home!

Ready to make some magic?

WANDS UP!

Supplies:

  • Iridescent Cellophane (any color will work, I just liked this one)
  • Large Skeleton Keys
  • Clear Label Paper (I used Avery 4397 Sticker Project Paper)
  • Hot Glue or Superglue

STEP ONE

Find a free printable wing template on the Internet. There are so many!   I found this image on www.elvenwork.com.  They look like a bit like dragonfly wings.

So pretty!

By copying and pasting, I was able to create a full page of wings (8 per page).  Print a sample first to make sure the wings are the size you want them. Then print the wings onto the clear sticker paper.

STEP TWO

Cut out a piece of cellophane about 8.5 x 11 inches.  You can get this at dollar stores and craft stores.  I bought mine from Amazon.  Next, say a spell, and crinkle it into a ball! Then, smooth it flat again and lay it out on your table with the iridescent side up.

STEP THREE

Carefully adhere the sticker paper to the cellphone. Magic!

STEP FOUR

Cut out the wings, and remember my crafty friend, it does not need to be perfect.

STEP FIVE

Glue wings onto key with hot glue or super glue.

SOME WAYS TO DISPLAY YOUR NEW FLYING KEYS:

I made two types of flying keys.  Some I attached a ribbon to make Christmas ornaments. Others, I used white thread and hung them over my Christmas tree.
